Workshop marking the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Earthquake Damage Analysis Centre (EDAC)

Schadensanalyse extremer Naturgefahren | Damage analysis of extreme natural hazards

26th March 2026 in Weimar | Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Marienstr. 13, Lecture hall D, 99423 Weimar | hybrid (1:30 to 5:30 pm)

Natural hazards – interdisciplinary challenges in research, teaching and practice

Natural hazards exist, and they require action when their occurrence has the potential to cause disasters and their intensity can turn into natural disasters. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam (including their predecessor institutions) have been linked by a close partnership for more than four decades, which has always been based on specific projects and has made nationally and internationally recognised contributions thanks to its interdisciplinary approach.

The workshop is intended to mark the 30th anniversary of the Earthquake Damage Analysis Center at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and also provide a forum for reviewing the results of the collaboration, exploring new topics and partnerships, and discussing future courses of action and forms of cooperation in light of the changes in research and teaching that are already becoming apparent as a result of new information technologies. A key objective is to provide research-oriented and project-specific support for the international Master's programme Natural Hazard and Risks in Structural Engineering (NHRE), for which an advisory board is to be established.

We look forward to your participation and inspiring contributions.
